I love making woodblock prints and I love visiting Door County and the surrounding Great Lakes region. It only makes sense that the two should mesh! 

I have a B.F.A. in drawing from Northern Illinois University and have been a woodblock printmaking for ten years. My work has appeared in many regional, national and international shows. Currently you can see my work in person at the Longbranch Gallery

All my prints created using, for the most part, the Japanese process known as Moku Hanga (wood print). Images are brushed on tissue thin Japanese paper (tengucho) which is then glued to a smooth wood block. Once the glue is dry the image is carved out through the paper on the block. The resulting image is then carefully inked with either a Japanese brush or brayer. Paper is the laid across the inked block and rubbed from the back with a disc baren. My favorite part of the process is watching the ink slowly soak through the paper as it is being rubbed by the baren. After rubbing the paper is carefully pulled from the block and hung up to dry.

Years ago my Grandparents had a house in Door County near Kangaroo Lake. One of my favorite memories of that place was picking and eating tiny strawberries along the road which lead to their house. Maybe there was something in those berries because many years later I am still hooked on the place. Through this shop I hope to share some of the natural beauty that Door County and the surrounding lake area has to offer.

Not all the items in my shop are of Door County. I like to think of this shop as my virtual Door County Gallery where the emphasis would be on the Door Peninsula and its many subjects but occasionally some other pieces will make their way in (i.e. woodblock prints of my beautiful wife Elinor).
